Meeting Minutes – Nike Historical Society
Meeting called to order at 13:03
Members present: G. Lunn, A. Kellogg, R. Jacobs, M. Jacobs, L. Stoppoloni, R. Parshal, E. Parshal, J. Nurisio, E. Nurisio
The minutes from last meeting of June 14, 2008 were read. The wording, (I’m not available) to be removed. Other than that the minutes were accepted as read.
The Treasurer submitted his report. As of June 12, 2008 there is $5375.38 in the checking account. No expenditures were reported.
There is no current information on Site Summit with regards to a finalized plan. There will be a Hercules missile on display during the Alaska State Faire, August 21 – Sept. 1, 2008. Apparently one was located in a state warehouse and will be assembled for the event. The Society was contacted for assistance for the fair. A copy of the Nike Hercules Story will be sent and Mr. G. Lunn will attend to represent the Society.
PayPal is working fine. There was only one transaction since the last meeting, which was a new membership.
A report was given on the post card project. They will be offered on 4 x 6 stock with pen and ink sketches of either a launcher area of IFC. Cards will be sold for $1.00 each. More information will be supplied at next meeting.
No information has recently been obtained on the acquisition of missile parts for
Sandy Hook although a recent photo of their Nike Hercules missile did, in fact, show the Guidance System hatches in place.
To date we have 259 members.
No new information has been received on the information boards at either Sweeney or Milagra Ridge. Another follow-up call will be made to the GGNRA in an attempt to obtain current information.
There has been no new information with regards to the audio tour being developed for SF-88 by the GGNRA. A follow-up will be made on this. In conjunction with the audio tour there are concerns over the current interpretation being given by docents at both Milagra and Sweeney Ridges. The Society concerns over these issues will also be included in the follow-up inquiry.
The Society has received a letter, dated 6-24-08, from the GGNRA informing the Society that we are considered an informal Park Partner. The letter was signed by Ms. Brian O’Neill, General Supt. A letters requesting Park Partner status are being sent to the Gateway National Recreation Area and Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Park.
A pen and ink drawing of an IFC are will be offered for sale on the website. The drawing will be priced the same as the current launcher area drawing. $20 unframed and $35 framed.
The annual reunion picnic will be held on Sept. 6th at the picnic area adjacent to Battery Wallace in the Marin Headlands. Invitations will be sent out via the internet to all members who have furnished an email address. Members, who live in the immediate area, who don’t have an email address will be notified by mail. The reunion will also be posted on the website. RSVP will be by 8-20-08.
